No More 'I Liked a Youtube Video' Tweets, Youtube Says

It seems Youtube finally realised that tailored posts are the best for individual platforms. The company recently announced that it's removing the feature that lets users automatically share their on-platform actions to Twitter and Google+. Does this look familiar?

It probably is, and you've probably been annoyed by it too. In fact, there are already top results in Google showing how to turn off this feature.

If this setting is turned on on Youtube, it will auto-tweet everything you do. From adding a new video, saving a playlist, and even your Youtube comments; Twitter records all. The latter, however, seems to have been removed already. Is it a good thing that the video streaming company is removing all the related functionality in its entirety?

As Youtube stated:

"Many years ago, we introduced the option to automatically post your public YouTube activity with your social media followers on both Twitter and Google+. Since then, we’ve found that social sharing works better when the message is more customized and takes advantage of social media features, such as @mentions. Overall, this provides a better experience for both you and your followers vs automatically generated posts."

Yes, it seems that Youtube itself recognises that auto-posts like these aren't particularly impressive. If you do wish to share a Youtube link, however, it would be best to create a separate, tailored post that will adequately introduce the contents of the clip to your targeted audience.

This update, though minor, is good progress toward the maturing of social networking. Older tactics like this, though created to bring in more engagement, are being recognised as not very effective after all. You can no longer post a single message and expect that every platform will reap equal results. You have to plan carefully and design meticulously for any type of audiences across individual platforms.

That's all for what we learned from this move from Youtube. Hopefully, we'll get another feature in replacement that will allow for better, actual user engagement.
