Tips for Marketers to Prepare for the Holiday Season

What is the month next to September? October. We're already in the second month of the "Ber" season, and you know what that means? The holidays are quickly coming! Okay, it might be a little bit too early for some people to start their holiday countdown, but you know what? It's never too early for marketers with online shops.

Online sellers, we're telling you now: start planning for the most wonderful time of the year!

Google ranks don't happen in an instant. It takes a lot of optimisation and preparation, so it is never too early to start your holiday website decorations. Here are a few tips to help you set up.

45 Days Rule

Spruce up your content at least 45 days ahead. As soon as the date turns 45 days before the start of the holidays, post your promotion to your website calendar and share a save-the-date notice to your social media. Seven days before the date, go and share an upcoming events post for your promotion and encourage other small businesses to share it with their followers. Finally, the day before the promotion event, post a reminder via social media.

Holiday Season Gift Pages

Be creative.  Set up category or special landing pages with content like 'Top 10 gifts for secret Santa', 'Best gifts for growing toddlers' or even something like 'Top 10 books to gift to a festive bookworm', to name a few. Tailor your landing or category pages to fit the approaching holidays. You can even reuse old content and edit the titles and meta descriptions to match.

There has to be enough time for search engines to follow your links, so make sure that you set up your holiday season landing pages ahead of time.

Social Media

Don't forget to share your product pages on social media. If a lot of people see your product posts, with the right approach, your products can make their way into these people's wishlist. Achieving this can create a significant impact on your sales.

Re-using Content

No need to create a new page from scratch! Just update the year and tweak a bit of content and you would be able to enjoy the inbound links directed to your old URL. Months before the holiday season, you could even simply share popular posts from last year, with only a bit of editing as necessary.

Optimise for Speed and Mobile

Every year, speed is becoming more and more critical. Make sure that your website's speed is up-to-date, and ensure that your site's mobile experience is working smoothly. Remember, more and more people prefer shopping through their phones.

All set? Don't forget to write down a measurement plan. Track all your actions and analyse your success. Do this and next year's holiday would be even better.
